Onwards and Upwards

Ok, moved passed my moment of introspection.

Just picked up some webspace for the new venture via that good folks at Godaddy. Why, because I am a sucker for the Go Daddy Girl. I was advised to use a different host, but Go Daddy was cheaper and had a much cuter corporate mascot. Will it come back to haunt me (like my lunch)? Hopefully not.

Now to download the shopping cart software and get it ftp'ed to my site.............

Still have to formally register a business Trade Name in order to complete my credit card application

Back on the financing front, I am still in the process of trying to paper a deal. My client's lawyer is out of town for a while, so I had to send them to another one. Also, we still need to fromally deal with the tax department and get a subordination agreement out of the BDC, which they have agreed to verbally, but you know what that is worth.

Quoting from the GoDaddy web site:

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
We design, implement and man our hosting systems with one objective foremost: to keep your site live, without any downtime, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We're proud that we're able to offer a 99.9% uptime guarantee based on our actual track record.

If we fail to maintain 99.9% availability of your site, please contact us and request a credit of 5% off that month's hosting fee.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

You get what you pay for. 99.9% sounds good, but it is WAY BAD as compared to what you should demand, and what other providers normally deliver. 99.9% translates to downtime of 43 minutes per month. Hmmmm,

And -- they expect YOU to monitor and audit and track/report that performance, somehow, on your own. Hmmmm again.

I usually recommend a more technically reliable and adaptable host, Pair.com. Sure, it's not US$3.95 per month (starts at about $6 to $17 for a well provisioned site) but why shave a few pennies?

read carefully through pair's offering - still looking at 99.9% up time...........they say they exceed this level, but dont really say by how much.

Pair does have the 6 backbone connections, but do they have biometric scanners, secure card-key access and 'Man-trap' restricted access to the data centers.

Ack.........words words words...........need action, not words

JOSH -- I appreciate your commenmts above. If your web site is coded smartly, you can maintain portability and thus be ready to bail from poor performance, if it proves to be a problem with any webhost.

However, remember that the size of the marketing girl's boobs is NOT related to the capacity of the hosting provider's data network.

I should make that a slogan for the next web client that comes knocking (pun intended)...

"We supply fat data pipe, not bulbous boobs"

That could be the slogan for a gay porn site aimed at techno-nerds.

I would trademark it......could be niche.
